Finding Joy

This time of year is full of anticipation of prosperity, health and spiritual growth. As we continue in the excitement of the New Year with family it is important to check in with yourself, too. How are YOU feeling? WHAT are YOU feeling? These questions can be overwhelming or even embarrassing to answer for some.


One way to fill yourself up is to be find small moments of joy. Watching your niece in her yellow polka-dot pants and red plaid shirt dance around your kitchen floor without a care in the world; listening to the bird song on your morning walk before work; enjoying the smell of a freshly baked loaf of banana bread; the embrace of a warm sweater. Be in the moment.


This is the moment that matters. Right here right now because nothing else is guaranteed.

To give to others is to receive. As you give your heart swells with love and smiles brighten your face and releases endorphins, the happy hormones. Giving back to yourself in the moments is the best way to nurture yourself and fill yourself back up. We can’t pour from an empty pitcher so giving yourself permission to enjoy your own quiet time, enjoying the hobby that makes you happy, or the every day moments of silliness are sometimes the best natural medicine. What brings you joy? Practice this every day and feel the difference it makes in your emotional well-being.
